PRG’s custom solutions add value while meeting a client’s needs.
Challenge:
Answer a designer’s call for a better, more effective fixture to serve a market niche.
Solution:
Sometimes less is just right.
Designer Howard Werner of Lightswitch New York was looking for an automated fixture to meet the specialized requirements of automotive trade show exhibits. “It needed to have a daylight color temperature with a lens that rotated,” he recalls. For budgetary reasons, though, “it didn’t need a lot of other bells and whistles.”
Not finding what he needed in the market, Werner brought the problem to PRG. In response, PRG developed the AutoPar™, a compact, 700-watt arc lamp with a fully DMX-programmable rotating lens assembly. “The AutoPar provides designers with a white light that results in excellent color rendering — a critical capability when designing for the automotive market,” notes PRG Vice Chairman and Chief Technology Officer Rusty Brutsché.
Just as important is what the AutoPar leaves out, observes Werner. “It has the features designers want, but without unnecessary extras that add complexity and cost. We didn’t need it to change color, iris or douse.”
Being smaller, lighter and simpler than a standard moving light, the AutoPar also provides great value to clients by reducing labor costs required to install and operate more complex fixtures.
Lightswitch has used the AutoPar extensively for automotive clients at top trade shows, including DaimlerChrysler, Nissan and Infiniti at the Detroit Auto Show, as well as Subaru, Nissan and Infiniti at the Chicago Auto Show. Says Werner, “It’s a product that’s ideal for the auto show circuit.”
