Challenge: Equip a new theatre with a lighting system fully compatible with an existing facility.
Solution: When planning their new venue in Branson, MS, Sight & Sound Theatres, the well-known producer of biblical-themed shows, came to PRG with a unique challenge.
“We wanted to rotate our productions between the new facility and our existing theatre in Strasburg, PA, with the same set, direction and lighting,” recalls lighting designer Joe Basinger. “For Branson, we needed to update our original designs with today’s technology, while building in flexibility so the new system will serve us for several years.”
PRG helped Sight & Sound equip the new facility with a lighting system that will keep it on the cutting edge for years to come while meshing with the Strasburg equipment. Senior Project Manager Gardiner Cleaves and Southwestern Regional Sales Manager Julie Mauséy of PRG headed the team that worked with the project for two and a half years, from first drawings to opening night.
“We encouraged them to update from DMX to an Ethernet-based system,” says Cleaves. PRG also worked with Sight & Sound to customize an IT addressing range that would enable the company to troubleshoot the Branson equipment from Strasburg. In all, PRG provided 47 automated and 1,653 conventional fixtures for the 336,000-square-foot facility, plus two EOS™ consoles and 1,440 dimmers.
“We had worked with PRG before and had a level of trust that they would get the job done to our high standards and production values,” observes Basinger. “PRG has quality people who know what it takes and how to do it. They made the project a whole lot easier.”
