PRG provides services that unite multiple venues in one historic event.

The Challenge: Provide two complete lighting systems and construct two complex sets for the Democratic National Convention while meeting strict green mandates.

The Solution: Production Designer Bruce Rodgers and his team from Tribe, Inc., along with Full Flood’s Lighting Designers Robert Dickinson and Bob Barnhart, relied on PRG to provide equipment, construction and crew support services to realize their innovative designs for the historic 2008 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Denver, Colorado.

The event was held in two locations, the Pepsi Center and Invesco Field Stadium. Two venues meant PRG was required to coordinate, assemble, construct and deliver two massive sets, and two complete lighting systems all with strict deadlines. PRG Scenic Technologies’ fabricated the scenery for both the main Pepsi Center stage and the Invesco Field set for Senator Obama’s closing night acceptance speech. Rodgers relied heavily on PRG to build his vision and still meet the DNC green mandate. PRG used a recycling company in Las Vegas to recycle 75-90% of the materials PRG sent to them. The carpet was 40% post consumer waste and much of it was donated to Habitat for Humanity and FEMA. The use of soybased paint and low VOC glues contributed greatly to the effort.

The large lighting equipment package included over 800 automated fixtures, a pair of PRG’s Virtuoso® consoles for each venue, and extensive use of the Series 400™ Power and Data Distribution system. PRG also supplied additional consoles, conventional fixtures, truss, followspots and production support.
