New Windsor, NY — In just four days, PRG helped producer Branduin Creative transform the 40-acre Oaks/Blenheim Riding Park in San Juan Capistrano, California, into a fantasy playground – ready to entertain guests with supersized video games, carnival rides, laser tag and a concert starring the rock group, KISS. Capping the Networkers at Cisco Live conference in nearby Anaheim, the July 25 “Rock Your Senses” event was Cisco’s thank you to 7,000 of its best customers.
“We started with a great venue that was basically an open field. We had to provide the entire infrastructure for this massive event from scratch – all the power, the ambient lighting for the site, the theatrical lighting for the concert, as well as lighting, sound and video for all the attractions,” recalls Molly McDaneld, Branduin’s vice president of production and creative. “We put it all in PRG’s hands, and they pulled it together for us, flawlessly.”
As the longtime lighting source for KISS’ concert tours, PRG already was familiar with the requirements of the legendary rockers. PRG’s Paul Morrill and Peter Alexander worked with event designer/production manager Chris McGregor, owner and founder of Stage II Design & Production, and lighting designer Joseph Pitruzelli to turn the grounds and each of the other Cisco event subvenues into total treats for the senses.
“Power distribution alone was a huge undertaking, with 11 different generators serving different areas,” noted McGregor. In addition to the concert stage, power needs for the evening included 26 towers, each equipped with a dozen Source Four® PARs to illuminate the grounds; two spotlight towers; a Ferris wheel and other carnival rides; multiple large tents equipped for laser tag, Guitar Hero II™ and other interactive games; an oxygen bar and other multisensory experiences; ice cream parlors and other food stations.
Drawing on its vast inventory, PRG supplied the generators, along with the power distribution panels and more than four miles of cable. Six truckloads of lighting equipment included 30 Genie® towers and more than 700 lighting fixtures.
PRG’s turnkey solution also included a video system, consisting of five video cameras and switching, for the KISS concert; an 8-foot by 10-foot rear projection screen and 10, 42-inch plasma video panels for the Guitar Hero II feature; plus video and audio for more than a dozen other attractions. PRG also provided the expert project management that left the clients free to concentrate on other aspects of the event.
“PRG just swept in and got it all up and running,” adds McGregor. “We actually were ready three hours ahead of schedule, which gave us some breathing room and helped with labor costs. I don’t know of any company that could have done what PRG did.”
