A spotlight with a lens originally developed for lighthouses. This type of spotlight provides a soft-edged light to be used for fill or backlight of a stage or talent. It can be controlled with an external accessory called 'Barn Doors'. Since the light produced by a Fresnel lens is soft, it is harder to control and keep of screens, drapes, and backdrops. These lights are often used in television and film production as well as for theatrical lighting designs.
