Real Time Mixed Reality Technology

PRG Los Angeles has welcomed the addition of Stefaan “Smasher” Desmedt as Creative Technical Director Video. Using a combination of technologies the team will demonstrate Real-time Stage Mixed Reality which can be utilized for a number of different productions and platforms.

With this approach, AR graphics can be rendered and displayed on physical LED screens (wall and floor) in real-time, onto the broadcast feed, or composited together, allowing 3D content to appear both in front and behind a performer. In addition, by tracking a real performer within that 3D space that same performer can now actively interact with the augmented graphics. What's more, 3D content, augmented products or lights can be virtually attached to a person and appear to be perfectly real in the broadcast output.

This demo is a great opportunity to both showcase and test developed products and enable us to continue to explore workflows for creating AR content, applicable for a wide range of applications and productions.

  • In a 3D space the camera tracks a live performer who actively interacts with augmented content that appears both in front and behind the performer
  • Augmented graphics are rendered and displayed on rear LED walls and LED floor in real-time on the broadcast feed, or composited together.
  • Tracking tech interacts with the camera to project image from camera’s POV.
  • 3D content, augmented products or lights can be virtually attached to a live person to appear “real” in the broadcast output.
