After an acclaimed run of almost two years in London’s West End, Mrs. Doubtfire has officially taken to the road.

The UK and Ireland tour opened at Birmingham Hippodrome and will visit venues nationwide through to late 2027, bringing the hit musical to audiences across the country. PRG is continuing its support for the production as it begins this next chapter.

Adapting the lighting design for touring

Building on Philip S. Rosenberg’s original West End lighting design, UK Associate Lighting Designer Harvey Ebbage led its adaptation for the tour.

Moving an established production from a fixed West End theatre into venues of different scales and configurations brings a new set of practical considerations. The touring package needed to preserve the visual language of Philip’s original design while giving the production team the flexibility required to deliver it consistently from venue to venue.

Working alongside Harvey, PRG Account Manager Ian Phillips helped develop a lighting package tailored to those demands. PRG Project Planner Melissa Compton oversaw its planning and delivery, ensuring the equipment arrived prepared and ready for the production’s opening performance at Birmingham Hippodrome.

A flexible followspot solution

As part of its support for the tour, PRG invested in the ROBE iFORTE LTX LightMaster Side system.

The system enables the production’s Robe iFORTE LTX fixtures to operate as manual followspots, combining the output and capabilities of the fixtures with the direct control required for live performance.

These are joined by GLP impression X5 fixtures, GLP impression X4 Bars and Ayrton Veloce Profiles, creating a flexible lighting platform that supports Harvey’s touring adaptation of the original design throughout its UK and Ireland run.

The resulting package reflects the collaborative approach behind the production, bringing together the creative intent of the lighting design with equipment, planning and technical support suited to life on the road.
