ROXX and PRG have jointly developed the K36, a powerful white-light fixture designed to meet the diverse requirements of professional sports, corporate and broadcast productions. Combining high output and camera-ready light quality with a compact, lightweight design, flexible beam control and full outdoor capability, the K36 was developed as a versatile key-light solution for a broad range of applications.

Driven by real-world requirements

The project began with an enquiry from PRG in summer 2025. The company was looking for a powerful and efficient key-light solution that could meet the demanding requirements of for sports lighting while also strengthen its portfolio for corporate, fashion and television productions. The demands of corporate applications in particular made a compact form factor, low weight and a high degree of flexibility central to the development brief.

“We had a very specific gap in our portfolio when it came to sports lighting,” says Matthias Allhoff, Head of Asset Strategy EMEA at PRG. “What we were missing was a compact key light suitable for outdoor use, with high light quality and enough output to achieve demanding levels of vertical illuminance. It also needed the flexibility to serve a wide range of applications, particularly beyond sports lighting. Following some very positive initial discussions, we felt we were in very good hands with Daniel Garcia and the ROXX development team. Ultimately, they delivered on our requirements and exceeded them in several key areas.”

Focus on the essentials

The K36’s 36 single-white LEDs deliver 17,160 lumens at 5,600 K. With its native 8° optic, the K36 achieves up to 24,000 lux at a distance of five metres. TLCI and CRI are both rated at 90.

To achieve the required high levels of vertical illuminance, ROXX deliberately chose a pure white-light source rather than an RGBx system. This maximises output, particularly across longer throw distances, while maintaining the light quality required for camera-based applications. Optional colour filters provide fixed colours where required.

Magnetic filters extend the specially developed TIR optic’s range of beam angles up to 55 degrees. Two filters can also be used in combination, allowing the beam characteristics to be adapted to different distances, coverage areas and mounting positions. An eight-leaf barn door is also available, along with the optional KEY Vertical Mount for vertically connecting two K36 fixtures.

For camera-based productions, the K36 offers 16-bit dimming and selectable PWM frequencies up to 25 kHz. Its IP65-rated housing is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Despite its high output, the fixture remains compact at 285 × 310 × 235 mm and weighs just 7.84 kg, comfortably below PRG’s original maximum target of 10 kg.

From development straight into large-scale use

Following the development and prototype phase, the K36 is now moving directly into operational use.  The fixture will see its first large-scale deployment this autumn on a major production, where PRG will use the new key-light solution in large numbers.

Jannika Petersen, Head of Technology Lighting at PRG, was closely involved throughout the development process, working alongside ROXX to define requirements, evaluate prototypes and contribute the practical perspective of an end user. She will now also be among the first to work with the K36 in a live production environment.
