One studio powering an international production

For Quiz With Balls, a single central studio became the beating heart of an international production. Over the course of one month, multiple language versions of the format were recorded here, each following a tightly scheduled rehearsal and recording plan. This approach required a technical infrastructure that was not only powerful, but above all consistent, scalable and efficient.

Commissioned by Talpa Studios, the production was technically delivered in close collaboration with Sightline, Light H-Art led by lighting designer Frank Vandijk, and NEP. PRG provided the technical realisation, covering rigging, lighting, audio, INFINIFORM™ scenic elements and power distribution. By consolidating these disciplines under one partner, a stable and controlled production environment was created, capable of supporting an intensive recording period.

Frank Vandijk’s lighting design formed the visual foundation of the show. Quiz With Balls revolves around tension, energy and timing, and this needed to be felt in every cue. To support this dynamic, an extensive lighting setup was deployed, including Ayrton Veloce and Rivale fixtures, Robe Robin Wash LedBeam 150, GLP Impression X5, Chauvet Epix Strip IP and CLF Hera LED Pars. All systems were driven through a Luminex network, ensuring stable and precise data distribution throughout the entire production period.

A key feature was the control of all LED strips integrated into the set, representing nearly 77,000 parameters. This scale of data control allowed colour, intensity and movement to be managed in fine detail, enabling the lighting to respond seamlessly to the show’s dramatic arc.

With multiple language versions recorded within the same studio setup, flexibility was essential. Here, PRG’s INFINIFORM™ system played a crucial role. The eighteen frames were not merely technical support structures, but fully integrated scenic elements within the studio environment. They defined the visual architecture of the space and were prominently featured on camera.

At the same time, the frames provided the necessary rigging stability and structural strength to safely support the extensive lighting installation. By combining technical performance with aesthetic integration, a solution was achieved that was both visually impactful and structurally robust. Cabling and servers were integrated within the structure itself, keeping the technical infrastructure organised without compromising accessibility.

The choice of INFINIFORM™ was a deliberate strategic decision. The entire frame structure was built within the system, ensuring perfect alignment of all elements and reducing on-site measuring and adjustments. In a production environment where time pressure is constant, this translated into significant efficiency gains. Fixtures can be repositioned in increments of five centimetres, offering exceptional flexibility in a television environment where camera angles are continuously refined. After production, the complete structure can be recycled, further strengthening the sustainability profile of the system.

A total of 330 Chauvet Epix Strip IP, 224 Robe Robin Wash LedBeam 150 and 200 CLF Hera LED Pars were mounted to the frames. Despite the scale of the installation, the overall aesthetic remained clean and controlled, while maintaining maximum technical freedom.

In addition to lighting and INFINIFORM™, PRG delivered the complete rigging setup with 170 hoists, an Adamson audio system deployed both flown and ground-stacked, and full power distribution for all departments. This integrated approach ensured a manageable workflow, even within a production recording multiple language versions day after day.

Quiz With Balls demonstrates how a single studio can function as an efficient hub for an international production. Commissioned by Talpa Studios, in collaboration with Sightline, Light H-Art, NEP and PRG, an environment was created where technology supports rather than dominates. The result is a setting built on reliability, flexibility and scale, enabling the international rollout of the format from one controlled production base.
