The Mbox v4.4.1 installer is compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina, but older versions are not. No matter which version of macOS you use, you must move your Mbox content folder (or its alias) from /Mbox to /Applications/Mbox before installing Mbox v4.4.1. This is to ensure compatibility with new security restrictions in Catalina.

Mbox® Studio v4 is the most popular product in the Mbox media server family and has up to 12 playback layers, 32 outputs with 8 output masters, and 4 video inputs. Like all members of the Mbox family, Studio includes the single-layer crossfading that makes Mbox so easy to use and fast to program. Studio offers substantial power and versatility and provides all the tools necessary for medium to large shows and installations that don’t require the full 3D capabilities of the Mbox software. Mbox Studio v4 can be upgraded to Mbox Studio+, which expands the capabilities of the Studio software: more output pixels, more pixel mapping pixels, more image remapping configurations, and Syphon output from layers.
- 12 playback layers for 2D and 3D content, all with single-layer crossfade
- Up to 32 outputs, with a maximum of 8 independent output masters: Levels, Effects, Keystone, and Shutter
- Flexible output resolutions (up to 4K at 60Hz) from built-in and Blackmagic devices
- Total output size 17.69 million pixels - 8192x2160 (Studio+) or 8.85 million pixels - 4096x2160 (Studio)
- Playback of 4K content
- Up to 4 video inputs from QuickTime, Blackmagic, or Active Silicon
- Audio playback with independent volume control on every layer
- Syphon in plus Syphon out from outputs and layers (Studio+) or outputs only (Studio)
- Art-Net and sACN input/output for control and pixel mapping
- 16,000 pixels for pixel mapping (Studio+) or 8000 pixels (Studio)

Mbox Director, a GUI control application for the Mbox media server products, can be downloaded and used for free. Director allows users to configure and control all aspects of Mbox content and playback from any Mac computer. Moving light consoles can also be used to control Mbox v4; fixture profiles exist for most popular consoles.
Mbox Studio v4 can be used on any Apple® Mac® computer with an Intel 64-bit processor, running macOS 10.10 Yosemite through 10.15 Catalina. (Note: Versions of Mbox prior to v4.3.2 are not compatible with macOS 10.14 Mojave, versions prior to v4.4.1 are not compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina.) For evaluation purposes, the Mbox Studio v4 software will run in demo mode with only minor limitations until a license is purchased. We always recommend testing the software on your computer prior to purchasing, as hardware setup can have an impact on performance.
Mbox Studio and Studio+ v4 can be licensed with a USB key or a soft-license. To purchase a USB license key, please contact your local PRG office. To purchase a soft-license key, please click on one of the buttons below.
If you would like to purchase an upgrade from Studio v3 to Studio v4, please DO NOT purchase a new license for Studio v4. Instead, please contact your local PRG office or email: MboxSupport@prg.com. Proof of original purchase may be required for upgrade eligibility.
Until a license is purchased, Mbox Studio can run in a demo mode with only minor limitations.
We strongly recommend testing on your computer prior to purchasing.
Purchases made by clicking one of the buttons above are for an Mbox Studio/Studio+ soft-license with limitations on the number of installations, and not for a USB license key. If you would prefer a USB license key that can be moved to any computer, please contact your local PRG office.
*As of July 1, 2019, the original "EWS" soft-license for Mbox Studio is no longer available for purchase (existing licenses will continue to work). A replacement soft-licensing system, "QLM", has been implemented in the Mbox Studio v4.4 release and will be the only soft-licensing system available for new purchases from July 12, 2019 forwards. Please see the note below in regard to the limitations of the soft-license.
**The Mbox Studio EWS (Mbox 3.6 - 4.3) soft-license allows the software license to be activated on two computers at the same time, but the terms of the End User License Agreement limits use of the software to only one computer at a time. The EWS license grants only two deactivations, limiting the number of times the license can be moved to a new computer (i.e. twice). Once both deactivations and both activations have been used, then a new license must be purchased for use on additional computers. EWS Purchase Terms & Conditions The Mbox Studio/Studio+ QLM (Mbox v4.4 and beyond) soft-license has the same two computer concurrent license limit, and the same usage limits, but allows for unlimited deactivations and subsequent reactivations.
